Falling for Love: A Nostalgic Autumn Engagement Session with Vintage Vibes
Ah, the sweetness of (fall)ing in love at their vintage autumn engagement session. The indulgent season of colorful leaves, cozy sweaters, and pumpkin-spiced everything. It’s also the most on point environment for capturing love in its most golden, glowing form. Add vintage film vibes, and you’ve got an opportunity for the most swoon-worthy engagement session. Which is exactly what Cassie and Ronnie created with their own love story. So grab your pumpkin spiced latte or apple cider and let’s reminisce on the dreamy details of their engagement shoot with vintage charm and autumn nostalgia.
Setting the Scene: A Step Back in Time
The first rule of a vintage-inspired engagement session? Location, location, location. I always love to use parks with open fields and hills. For our couple, Cassie and Ronnie, the setting was Thompson Park, full of open fields framed by amber-hued trees. It was like walking into a painting.
Wardrobe Color Palette: Channeling That Autumn Aesthetic
Emily looked like she’d stepped out of an old family photo—her dress a soft, tea-length number in a muted floral print, complete with puffed sleeves and lace gloves. Jack rocked a wool vest, rolled-up sleeves, and suspenders, like a farmhand straight out of a romance novel. Did they top it off with hats? Of course they did. Berets and newsboy caps are basically the autumn engagement session starter pack.
When Cassie’s floral red dress met Ronnie’s red flannel, the color palette was perfect to match the colors of autumn. These two brought the cozy vibes, the playful laughs, and all the “young and in love” energy.
Nostalgia on Film: The Final Touch
To truly capture the nostalgic and vintage aesthetic, I recreated the style of film photography in my editing of the photos. To emulate film photos, with their grainy texture and warm tones, I recreated that very look with my vintage editing style.
Lessons in Love (and Photography)
If this session taught us anything, it’s that people and their loves stories are timeless—and so is the beauty of an autumn afternoon. Whether you’re planning your engagement shoot, your next date night, or just an afternoon frolicking through the leaves, remember this: It’s never about recreating a perfect photo from the past, but about living in the moment and letting your unique story unfold, messy, silly and all.
So, grab your partner, wear something you feel comfortable and confident in, and let your own story work its magic into your photoshoot. Just make sure to leave enough room in the day to stop for pumpkin spice lattes before the photoshoot.
